Lessons

I teach private, one-on-one lessons.  Lessons are normally one hour.  Shorter lessons of 30 to 45 minutes are sometimes appropriate for younger children.

Lesson time is used to learn repertoire, address technical questions, sight-read and discuss progress.  Music theory and history are incorporated into the lesson as appropriate.

I believe that a student learns best through self-discovery rather than being told what to do. I guide a student through the lesson with this approach.

Lessons are tailored to each student's needs.  I spend time assessing a student's strengths and weaknesses both during and outside the lesson.   I choose repertoire that will meet each student's needs based on where they are and where they need to go.  I have spent a great deal of time studying the harp repertoire at all levels and draw on that knowledge as I teach.  I also touch on the theory and history of the repertoire.  This provides a greater context and often more interest for the student.

There are many sizes and types of harps.  I assist all my students in researching and selecting the best harp for them!  I will ensure that you find a harp that is in good condition, teach you about proper daily maintenance and guide you to exceptional resources for repairs and yearly maintenance.
